JPG, PNG, WebP · processed in your browser

Invert Image is for a scan that is white text on a dark page, a negative, or a screenshot you want as the opposite colors — when grayscale would throw the color away and a mirror would only flip the layout. It is a Local tool: JPG, PNG, or WebP (up to 20) stay on this device. Each red, green, and blue channel becomes 255 minus itself. Width, height, and PNG or WebP alpha stay the same. Running it twice returns the original colors. This page does not compress or crop. For black and white, use Grayscale Image. For a reflection, use Flip Image.

This tool is free to use.

How to invert an image

  1. Add one to twenty JPG, PNG, or WebP files. Processing stays on this device.
  2. Confirm Invert is Local — the swap runs in a Web Worker; files are not uploaded.
  3. There is no slider. Every color channel is replaced with its opposite, and alpha is copied through.
  4. Process. JPEG and WebP are re-encoded around quality 90. PNG stays lossless.
  5. Download one file or a ZIP. To drop color instead, use Grayscale Image. To mirror, use Flip Image.

Invert image FAQs

Does the file leave this device?

No. Invert is a Local tool. Work runs in a Web Worker on your device and the file is not uploaded.

What changes in each pixel?

Red, green, and blue each become 255 minus the original value. Alpha is copied unchanged. A pure red pixel becomes cyan.

Will the picture stay the same size?

Yes. Width and height do not change. PNG and WebP keep transparency.

Can I get the original colors back?

Run Invert again on the download. Two passes restore the colors, aside from JPEG or WebP re-encoding. PNG stays lossless.

How is this different from Grayscale?

Grayscale Image replaces color with luminance and cannot be undone from the download. Invert keeps a color negative you can reverse.

How is this different from Flip?

Flip Image mirrors pixels and keeps the colors. Invert keeps the layout and swaps the colors.

Does this read text or remove a background?

No. Text painted into the pixels stays painted, only in opposite colors. A cutout is Remove Background, which uploads.
