BMP to JPG is for an old screenshot, a scanner export, or a Windows bitmap that email and web forms will not take — when you need a JPEG and the file must stay on this device. It is a Local tool: up to ten .bmp files are read in a Web Worker. Only uncompressed 24-bit and 32-bit BMP (BI_RGB) are decoded. Palette, 16-bit, and RLE bitmaps stop with an error instead of a guessed picture. Width and height stay the pixel size in the file. 32-bit alpha flattens onto white because JPEG has no alpha. This page does not read TIFF, PNG, WebP, or AVIF. Scans in TIFF belong on TIFF to JPG. JPG, PNG, and WebP belong on Convert Image.

How to convert BMP to JPG

  1. Add one to ten .bmp files. Processing stays on this device.
  2. Confirm BMP to JPG is Local — decode and JPEG encode run in a Web Worker; files are not uploaded.
  3. Set JPEG quality. 32-bit transparency flattens onto white. Palette and RLE files will not be converted.
  4. Process. A PNG, TIFF, or compressed BMP stops with an error.

Does the file leave this device?

No. BMP to JPG is a Local tool. Decode and encode run in a Web Worker on your device. The file is not uploaded.

Which BMP files work?

Uncompressed 24-bit and 32-bit BMP, the common Windows screenshot and paint export. The header must say BI_RGB (compression 0).

What is rejected?

Anything that is not that BMP: PNG, JPG, TIFF, 8-bit palette BMP, 16-bit BMP, and RLE-compressed BMP. The page does not invent pixels from a format it cannot read.

Will the JPG keep the BMP size?

Yes. Width and height stay the size stored in the bitmap. Quality changes file weight and detail, not the dimensions.

Where did transparency go?

JPEG has no alpha. A 32-bit BMP with transparency is flattened onto white. 24-bit BMP has no alpha to keep.

How is this different from TIFF to JPG?

TIFF to JPG reads TIFF, including multi-page scans. This URL reads BMP only. Convert Image does not read either format.

How is this different from PNG to JPG?

PNG to JPG starts from PNG. A .bmp file is rejected there. Use this page for the bitmap, then compress the JPEG if the upload limit is tight.
