JSON to Excel is for data you already have as JSON — an API payload, a config export, or rows from a script — when you need a real .xlsx you can filter in a spreadsheet. It is a Local tool: one .json file stays on this device. An array of objects becomes a sheet named Sheet1. An object whose values are arrays becomes one sheet per key (names are trimmed to 31 characters and characters Excel rejects in sheet names are replaced). A single object becomes one row. This page does not parse CSV; use CSV to Excel for that. It does not restore formulas, charts, or styles.

How to convert JSON to Excel

  1. Add one .json file. Processing stays on this device — the file is not uploaded.
  2. Confirm JSON to Excel is Local — SheetJS builds the workbook in the browser.
  3. Use an array of row objects for one sheet, or an object of arrays when each key should be its own sheet.
  4. Process. Invalid JSON stops with an error and does not write a file.
  5. Download the .xlsx and open it in a spreadsheet. To export sheets back to JSON, use Excel to JSON. Comma-separated text belongs on CSV to Excel.

Does the file leave this device?

No. This is a Local tool. SheetJS builds the workbook in the browser and the JSON is not uploaded.

Which JSON shapes work?

An array of objects or arrays becomes Sheet1. An object whose every value is an array becomes one sheet per key. Any other object becomes a single row on Sheet1.

How is this different from CSV to Excel?

CSV to Excel reads comma- or tab-separated text. This page reads JSON only. A .csv file is rejected here.

Will formulas come back?

No. Cells are values. There is no formula text, chart, or cell style in the new workbook.

What about sheet names?

Keys become sheet names. Excel allows 31 characters and rejects \ / ? * [ ] :. Those characters are replaced, and a duplicate name gets a numeric suffix.

What if the JSON is empty or broken?

An empty array, an empty object, or text that is not JSON stops the job with an error. Nothing is downloaded.

Can I print this workbook to PDF here?

Not on this page. After you download the .xlsx, Excel to PDF uploads the workbook to make pages. This JSON conversion stays on the device.
