AVIF to PNG is for a still AVIF you need as a PNG with its transparency intact — a sticker, a UI asset, or a photo that was saved with an alpha channel. It is a Local tool. The decoder prefers the same jSquash AVIF path this site already uses, then keeps the alpha in the PNG. AVIF to JPG is the other job: it flattens transparency onto white and writes a JPEG. An animated AVIF keeps the first frame only. iPhone HEIC is not AVIF; use HEIC to PNG, which uploads.

This tool is free to use.

How to convert AVIF to PNG

  1. Add an .avif file. It stays on this device.
  2. Read the note: alpha is kept, and animation uses the first frame.
  3. Create the PNG.
  4. Download it, or a ZIP if you added several files. Open it on a checkerboard if you need to see the transparent pixels.
  5. Use WebP to PNG for WebP, or AVIF to JPG when you want a JPEG instead.

AVIF to PNG questions

Is the file uploaded?

No. Decoding and PNG encoding stay on this device.

Is transparency kept?

Yes when the AVIF has an alpha channel. The PNG is not flattened onto white. AVIF to JPG does flatten, because JPEG has no alpha.

What about an animated AVIF?

Only the first frame is written. This page does not build an animated PNG.

Why not use AVIF to JPG?

JPG cannot store transparency. Use this page when the see-through pixels matter, and the JPG page when you want a smaller photo without alpha.

My iPhone file is HEIC, not AVIF.

Open HEIC to PNG. That tool uploads the photo. This page accepts AVIF only.

Can I convert a batch of AVIF files?

Yes. One file downloads as a PNG. Several files download as a ZIP. The picker accepts AVIF only.

Will a JPG or WebP work on this page?

No. Use Convert Image or the WebP pages for those files.
